Pakistan has secured the world number one ranking in Tests and Indian captain Virat Kohli has played down losing the top spot to arch-rivals Pakistan in the aftermath of the abandoned fourth and final match of the series against the West Indies in Trinidad on Monday.
According to media reports, Kohli said: “I said at the time that getting to number one was always a short-term incentive.
“Other teams have played 10-15 more Tests than us so it will keep switching. We can judge ourselves better at the end of our home season.”
This is the first time that Pakistan has become the number one ranked team in the world ever since rankings were introduced in 2003.
Kohli however added that the team is satisfied with the outcome of the series as the fourth Test ended in a draw after wet outfield led to abandonment of the match at the Queen's Park Oval.
India is scheduled to play 13 Tests at home over the next six months, including four against Australia in February and March.
