imagePakistan’s new leg-spin maestro Yasir Shah had no facilities to sharpen up his talent in his hometown Swabi and spent his life like a journeyman across the country to become what he is today.

Yasir Shah has knocked England's James Anderson off the top of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Test rankings in the aftermath of his match-winning heroics at Lord's. Remarkably, Yasir's superb display came in his first test outside of Asia and the United Arab Emirates.

“When I was growing up, there were no facilities for sportsmen in Swabi, so to pursue my dream of becoming a professional cricketer, I had to move to Peshawar,” Yasir said during a recent interview with the local media.

“I had to stay away from my home and family for eight years to be close to cricket. I played in Peshawar from 2000 to 2004 and then in Karachi from 2004 to 2008, where I lived in Surjani Town with a friend. I played inter-firms and departmental tournaments for Deewan Motors for a period of three years, and then spent a year with Pakistan Customs.”

However, Yasir bagged a 10-for with six and four in the first and second innings respectively.

The Pakistani leggie became the first Asian bowler to pick up 10 Test wickets in a match at Lord’s. Shah also gets his name on the honours board at Lord’s. Yasir Shah said, “Proud moment for me when I saw my name on the honour's board at Lord's.”

Yasir Shah was also awarded the ‘player of the match’ award for brilliant bowling display at Lord's.
