ISLAMABAD: Defence analyst Col (Retd) Sultan Gaman said that Pak-India Secretaries level talk on Siachen and Sir-Creek issue is a positive step in the right direction.
Talking to a private news channel, he said that both countries especially India should realize the matter due to avalanche in Siachen.
He hoped that dialogue would bring positive outcome and said that people of the sub-continent are peaceful but foreign forces are trying to widen distance between Pakistan and Indian governments.
Commenting over Pak-India fresh talks on Siachen and Sir-Creek, Vice Admiral (Retd) Syed Deedar Hussein ssid that these issues had become crucial due to Pak-India tense relations.
He said that these issues can be easily resolved as compared to the Kashmir.
Analyst Professor Saleem Kudwai said only negotiations can resolve the issue and Siachen is not a complicated issue.
He said that both sides realization can resolve Siachen issue and Pak-India should adopt new strategy on the Siachen. He has termed the direct negotiations a positive step.
Former Pakistani ambassador Javed Hussain has said that Siachen issue should be resolved under Simla Agreement as soon as possible because Pakistan and India are facing trouble in Siachen besides both parties are not gaining strategic advantage of Siachen.
Javed Hussain said that he is agreed that Islamabad and New Delhi should hold talks over all issues. Some complicated issues will take time. However, he said that we can not expect dramatic breakthrough of current secretaries' level talks.
To a question Hussain said that Pakistan wants withdrawal of troops from Siachen under Simla accord of 1972 while India desires to demarcate on the ground position of the troops as border. This will give indirect recognition to India position in Siachen that was early in Pakistan control.
Therefore, Pakistan opposes Indian stand on principle ground. It is basic difference between the two sides. I think discussion should be continued to resolve the issue,he added.
He said peace is essential for Pakistan and India, both should not give up and confidence building measures should increase more and more.
