ISLAMABAD: Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani has asked the federal and provincial governments to make the constitutional history of Pakistan a compulsory subject "to inculcate an understanding and commitment to the Constitution" among students.
The Senate Chairman, in separate letters the Prime Minister and four provincial chief ministers, said steps may be taken for incorporation of the constitutional history of Pakistan in the curriculum of all federal and provincial educational institutions up to the intermediate level.
He said the decision was taken in light of the discussion during the Senate sitting on April 13 this year, in which parliamentary leaders and members agreed to make the constitutional history a compulsory subject, according to a press release.
The Senate of Pakistan observed April 10, 2015 as Constitution Day to commemorate passage of the Constitution in 1973.
