ISLAMABAD: Chairman Council of Islamic Ideology Moulana Muhammad Khan Sherani on Tuesday strongly opposed the proposed amendments in Child Marriage Restraint (Amendment) Bill 2014 saying that it is contrary to Islamic teachings and laws.
Criticizing the bill moved by Ms Marvi Memon seeking to amend the Child Marriage Restraint Act ,1929 "The Child Marriage Restraint Amendment bill 2014" in National Assembly Moulana Sherani said that according to Islamic laws the marriage can be solemnised when a girl attains puberty.
He also quoted the example of the era of Holy Prophet Peace be Upon Him.
He said the Parliament could not legislate laws which are against the teachings of Quran and Sunnah.
MNA Moulana Ameer Zaman said this is Islamic issue and should be referred to the Council of Islamic Ideology for further perusal and discussion.
