KARACHI: In a massive drive against ticketless travelling in Karachi Railway Division, a record 11,205 passengers were apprehended for travelling without ticket during the month of May.
The drive was carried out by Divisional Commercial Officer (DCO) Nasir Nazeer following the instructions from the Railway Minister Saad Rafiq for rooting out the menace of ticketless travelling which was causing loss to national exchequer.
The DCO during different raids recovered over Rs 10.008 million as fine and fare from 11,205 passengers who were travelling without ticket.
According to the DCO, the trains which were raided for ticketless passengers included Awam Express, Pakistan Express, Allama Iqbal Express, Karakoram Express and other trains.
In April 2015, the DCO apprehended 10,985 ticketless passengers and recovered over Rs 8.516 million.
