ISLAMABAD: National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has granted power generation license to Reshma Power Generation (Pvt.) Limited (RPGPL) for its 96.96 MW RFO based generation facility.
The license was granted in pursuant to Section 15 of the Regulation of Generation, Transmission and Distribution of Electric Power Act (XL of 1997), said a press release issued here on Monday.
The sustainable and affordable electric power is a key for socio-economic-development of any Country.
The Economic Growth of any Country is directly linked with the availability of safe, secure, reliable and cheaper supply of electricity.
Presently, the country is also facing Supply-Demand Gap.
More capacity addition at reasonable cost is necessary.
In this regard, concrete efforts are being made to set up electric power projects using cheaper fuels including Coal, Liquefied Natural Gas-LNG and Hydel.
The construction/installation of new Power Plants is a lengthy laborious task which cannot be completed in days.
In fact such activities involve minimum of 18-24 months of construction time from Financial Close which itself is a process of 6-12 months after the determination of tariff.
Therefore, it is clear that for a new project at least a period of 24-36 months is required.
Whereas, the demand of the country is rising day by day and the consumer cannot wait anymore for new projects to come on line.
Under the prevailing circumstances NEPRA is trying its best to utilize the idle capacity in the country.
For this purpose, the Industrial Units, Chemical Units, Fertilizer Plants and Sugar Mills have been motivated to supply surplus electric power to the National Grid.
In consideration of the said, the Authority considers that using the idle capacity of the previous RPPs which are no more in litigation and cleared by NAB, can also be considered for supplying to National Grid to meet with the rising demand in the shorter term.
The Authority has duly considered the details provided by RPGPL in its application for the grant of Generation License, the comments of the stakeholders and other proceedings of the case.
In this regard, the Authority is satisfied that RPGPL has complied with all the requirements of the relevant rules and regulations. Therefore, the Authority is satisfied that RPGPL qualifies for the grant of Generation License.
