imageISLAMABAD: All Pakistan Liquified Petroleum (LPG) Distributors Association on Friday called upon the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) to take action against high LPG consumer price.

The association's chairman Irfan Khokhar said a letter had been written to the OGRA chairman to issue a directive to all concerned departments and enforcement department OGRA to check whether the LPG was being sold to consumer at reasonable price or not and that whoever involved in this price hike should be strictly dealt with.

It pointed out Producer Price was at Rs 75,000 per MT excl GST and transportation cost etc. but LPG is being sold at a very high price particularly in Rawalpindi and Islamabad and other cities all over the country.

At present, LPG price is Rs 120 per Kg in Karachi-Hyderabad, Rs 135-140 per Kg in Lahore-Gujranwala-Multan and Rs 160 per Kg in Rawalpindi-Islamabad, the letter said.

He said it would always be appreciative in this regard as the poor consumer was being deprived of the low price benefit allowed by the Producer.

He said the commodity has witnessed second hike in just seven days without any notification, putting extra burden on masses and posing a challenge to the regulator to purge unethical business practices from the LPG market, said the LPG distributors association's chairman Irfan Khokhar.

Describing the rising trend in LPG price an effort to defame the democratic set-up, he called upon the government to take notice of frequent raises to foil such bid.

He described the price increase as illegal and said that the prices were jacked up without any notification of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).

He dispelled the impression that there was a shortage of LPG, adding that there was adequate stock available to fulfill requirements.
