lpg-pakistanKARACHI: The international price (Saudi Aramco Contract Price) of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) reaches to $775 with an increase of $ 168.50 per ton, effective from August 3, 2012. The price of commodity in local prices is raised by Rs 16,000 reaching to Rs 97,000 per ton.

This was stated by the chairman of FPCCI Standing Committee on LPG and All Pakistan LPG Distributors Association (APLDA) Abdul Hadi Khan here Tuesday.

He said that domestic price of LPG has been increased by Rs 16 per kilo in accordance with the rise in Saudi Aramco CP.

Hadi pointed out that 11.8 kilo cylinder will be increased by Rs 190 and 45.4 kg cylinder by Rs 727.

He said that in Karachi, LPG will be sold at Rs 115 per kilo, 11.8 kg cylinder at Rs 1192 and 45.4 kg cylinder at Rs 4,584.

In Lahore, the price of LPG will be Rs 120 per kg, 11.8 kg cylinder at Rs 1292 and 45.4 kg cylinder at Rs 4,964.

Similarly, in Khyber Pukhtoonkhwa, LPG will be available at Rs 125 per kg, 11.8 kg cylinder at Rs 1414 and 45.5 kg cylinder at Rs 5,378.

In norther areas, FATA, Batgram and AJK, price of LPG will be Rs 129 per kilo, 11.8 kg cylinder at Rs 1496 and 45.4 kg cylinder at Rs 5,741.

Hadi demanded the government to asked the domestic production companies not to increase the price of locally produced LPG, as it will reduce the sale to 65 percent.

He pointed out that local producers were not raising their production which is stagnant at 800 tons per day for the last one and a half year whereas its demand has risen to at least 1700 tons per day due to energy crisis.

The LPG cannot be encouraged in transport sector under the current rising prices. There is a need to double the local production of LPG to ensure the availability of sufficient LPG in the country at economical prices and as an alternate fuel.
