Consistent power failure throughout Sindh

Published May 30, 2017

Ramazan is the test of our patience. It seems that electricity suppliers in our country have taken the saying quite seriously.

Almost all of the major cities of the Sindh province have been facing massive power outages since the holy month of fasting has begun.

The blackouts in the province were caused by the tripping of 500-KV Jamshoro line for the third time Tuesday morning, after tripping on both Sunday and Monday nights, reported Geo News.

The technical fault left almost half of Sindh into darkness, forcing people to do their Sehris and Iftaris in complete darkness and heat of May.

Cities currently facing a major power failure include Karachi, Larkana, Jamshoro, Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Thatta, Mirpur Khas, Sujawal.

According to Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO), which provides electricity to all 13 districts of the province, power supply was suspended to 76 out of 80 grid stations.

Khawaja Asif apologises

Federal Minister for Water and Power, Khawaja Asif has apologized for the massive power breakdown in the province of Sindh, saying: “I am really sorry for the breakdown due to which people suffered immensely [on the first day of Ramazan]”, The Express Tribune reported.

The minister added that Federal government is trying its best to reduce the power load shedding.

Khawaja Asif’s apology came after a day when CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah wrote a letter to federal government complaining about the situation.

Shah said: “This is a very serious situation, especially when temperatures are very high in most parts of Sindh”.
