No room for delay in general elections: Prime Minister
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf on Thursday directed the Law Minister to ensure that there was no delay in the holding of the general election in the country.
He also directed to ensure that the Constitution and the laws were followed in letter and spirit in the run up to the next elections.
The Prime Minister issued these directions during a meeting at the PM House in which the Law Minister gave a comprehensive briefing in this regard.
Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Farooq H. Naek briefed about the role of Election Commission and measures taken by the government to ensure free, fair and transparent elections.
They also discussed the current situation in the backdrop of parleys with leaders of Pakistan Muslim League-Q and reviewed the overall arrangements of the election process in the country.
The Prime Minister appreciated the efforts made by the Ministry of Law, particularly Farooq H. Naek, in the preparation of Fair Trial Bill and its passage by both Houses of Parliament.
