pm-kurl-ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf Monday said the government was committed to holding of a free, fair and impartial election and smooth transition of power.

 

He said the completion of the tenure of the first civilian government in the history of Pakistan would be a historic achievement of the government.

 

Talking to a delegation led by US Senator Carl Levin who is also Chairman Senate Armed Services Committee, here at the PM House, the Prime Minister said Pakistan values its relations with the United States of America and termed it its most important economic partner.

 

He expressed the hope that relations between the two countries will further strengthen in the interest of the region and the world.

 

The Prime Minister talking about the 2014 post-withdrawal scenario from Afghanistan said Pakistan desires peace and stability in its neighbouring country.

 

He said Pakistan condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.

 

He also welcomed the re-election of President Barak Obama, the Prime Minister said it will ensure continuity in relations.

 

The Prime Minister appreciated the services of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and welcomed the nomination of Senator John Kerry as the new Secretary of State.

 

Senator Karl Levin and Senator Jack Reed said relations between the two countries were on the right track. They said the world was looking with great interest the next general elections in Pakistan.

 

The delegation comprised Senator Jack Reed, member Armed Services Committee, Richard Olson, US Ambassador and senior officials.

 

The Pakistani side was represented by Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar, Minister for Finance Dr. Abdul Hafeez Sheikh and senior officials.
