imageISLAMABAD: Former skipper Zaheer Abbas on Monday hailed all-rounder Shahid Afridi on becoming the first cricketer to hit 400 sixes in an international career.

Afridi reached the landmark in the 16th over of Pakistan`s reply to the West Indies`152 for seven in the first Twenty20 international. It took Afridi 437 innings and 17 years to complete 400 sixes.

The next in the list of most international sixes is Chris Gayle, who has hit 353 sixes in 451 innings more than Afridi. Third on the list is Sanath Jayasuriya with 352 sixes. No other Pakistan player has hit more than 200 sixes. Inzamam-ul-Haq 193 and Wasim Akram 178+ are next.

Talking to APP, the Asian Bradman was full of praise for Afridi saying this series has been a milestone for Afridi. "Pakistan's win against West Indies proved fruitful for the youngsters as they got exposure to play international cricket," he said adding that it is time we start depending on our young players now.

The former captain further said Pakistan played well in all three formats of the game including batting, bowling and fielding. "Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should include five to six young players in the upcoming Zimbabwe tour as it will be the best opportunity to give more exposure to young players," he said.

Zaheer also congratulated Pakistan team for winning the Twenty-20 series against West Indies but advised them to overcome their mistakes to be successful in their future assignments as well. "I see a bright future for both Muhammad Irfan and Junaid Khan and I am sure they will play a vital role for Pakistan in future," he said.
