ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Minister of State Abid Sher Ali and Secretary Mohammad Younus Dagha Monday strongly condemned the firing at on MEPCO staff and shooting to death of an assistant lineman by Kissan Ittehad armed men in Lodhran.
According to SE B/Pur MEPCO, the line staff were removing transformers at Basti Malook of the big defaulters of tubewell connections on Monday.
The farmers backed by Kissan Ittehad resisted and at 1400 hrs a quarell took place and two lineman of Lodhran got injured.
Subsequently Muhammad Ahmad Hassan ALM MEPCO (Op) Rural Sub-Division Lodhran was shot dead by Kissan Ittehad armed men while trying to remove transfer of Tube well defaulters at about 4 pm, said a press release.
It may be noted that according to agreement with Kisan Itehad and Punjab Government all current due are to be recovered from the tubewell owners and their old outstanding will be settled later.
However, when the MEPCO staff went to disconnect the connection due to non-payment of current bills, they were resisted by farmers backed by Kissan Ittehad.
The minister while strongly condemning the incident, expressed the resolve to continue working againt the defaulters and let not anyone be spared.
He said that every action will be taken against the culprits.
He also paid tribute to the MEPCO ALM for sacrificing his life in the line of duty.
The minister directed the MEPCO for looking after the family of the martyr and announced compensation for his family.
The minister of state and the secretary prayed to Almighty Allah to shower countless blessing upon the departed soul.
