imageKARACHI: City administration on Monday arrested three retailers and fined 158 others of Rs.263,000 for fleecing consumers under varied pretext, mainly profiteering.

A concerned official sharing the detail of the crackdown said 59 milk sellers, 34 grocers, 46 chicken sellers, eight green grocers, 10 fruit sellers and one flour miller were challaned for violating the official price list and using defective weighing scales.

Those arrested were mainly grocers found to be selling adulterated and sub standard items and also overcharging the buyers.

Assistant commissioners pertaining to different districts are actively engaged in the crackdown against retailers involved in fleecing the masses.

Retailers fined and arrested were said to be from Saddar, Civil Lines, Garden, SITE Area, Baldia, Ferozabad, Jamshed Quarters, Gulshan e Iqbal, Gulzar e Hijri, Liaqutabad, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, Orangi, Baldia, Bin Qasim, Ibrahim Hyderi, New Karachi, Landhi, Korangi and Model Colony.
