KARACHI: On the directive of Commissioner Karachi, Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, action has been initiated against milk sellers indulging in overcharging.
An official of the local administration said on Saturday that in a crackdown, 132 milk sellers were challaned and a fine of Rs. 254,000 was imposed on them whereas 11 shopkeepers were sent to jail.
He pointed out that in a meeting with Commissioner Karachi, the dairy farmers, wholesalers, producers and retailers had assured that stability would be maintained in milk prices and it will be sold at previous government rate of Rs. 70 a litre. Commissioner Karachi asked the milk sellers to desist from overcharging.
He also asked the Assistant Commissioners to keep a vigilant eye on the prices and initiate action against those indulging in overcharging.
