ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain on Thursday said development in science and technology is important for progress of the country and stressed for setting clear goals and dedicated efforts to bring about a scientific revolution.
Addressing the convocation of Institute of Space Technology here at the Pak-China Friendship Centre, he urged upon the scientists to work hard in the field of research and further explore the new worlds of technology.
The President appreciated the contribution of Institute of Space Technology (IST) in the field of space sciences and for launch of the country's first ICUBE satellite for scientific research.
He also lauded IST for running the massive simulation programmes and gaining access to the world's second fastest supercomputer Titan in United States.
He stressed increased collaboration of IST with established universities working in space sciences and proposed to get performance evaluation of their programmes from them.
He urged the graduates to work hard to attain further accomplishments in the field of space technology and give high priority to national progress.
The President said the country had made remarkable economic achievements and added that its international fiscal rating had also improved.
He mentioned that Pakistan was going to witness an era of prosperity with launch of several mega development programmes including China Pakistan Economic Corridor and Gwadar International Airport.
Vice Chancellor IST Imran Rehman in his address said the institution was producing young professionals in the field of Aerospace & Communication Systems Engineering, and was providing most up-to-date research facilities in the country including on subject such as micro-gravity.
He said the IST's vision was to foster intellectual and economic vitality through teaching, research and outreach in the field of Space Sciences and Technology.
He said the IST's failure Analysis Centre was also studying the cases of accidents of national airlines.
President Mamnoon gave away degrees to the graduates. He also inaugurated the Geospatial Research Lab of IST and visited the projects prepared by students.
