ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif would soon announce a special assistance package for mitigating the sufferings of drought-hit people of Tharparkar, Chairperson National Assembly Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting Marvi Memon said Monday.
Talking to a private TV channel, Marvi said she visited the drought-hit areas of Thar for preparing a detailed report following the surveys of Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal (PBM) and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
The report, she said, containing recommendations, fact and figures compiled by PBM and NDMA would be submitted to the PM for finalizing the relief package.
"I have visited Thar drought-hit areas on the directives of the Prime Minister and will present a report to the PM about the prevailing situation there. PM will announce the assistance package for the victims," she said.
Marvi said the Prime Minister has directed the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) stalwarts and the concerned departments to visit the affected areas and ensure extending all possible cooperation and relief to the brethren in need.
Although, she said, the drought was a provincial matter but the federal government would not do politics on the issue but would only concentrate on relief activities in the area.
The Chairperson expressed profound grief and sorrow over deaths in the drought-affected area of Sindh.
Previously, she said the PM had announced a huge package for Thar drought- hit areas and this time 'targeted assistance' would be provided to the victims.
She said the federal government was committed to resolve the issues being faced by the masses including clean water and nutrition there.
