0.167mn used cars imported in seven years to meet demand

ISLAMABAD; Pakistan has imported around 0.167 million used cars during last seven years to meet growing demand.

As per data, during the period, more than one million cars were also produced by local manufacturers.

The year-wise break-up shows that during 2005-06, local production of cars was 171,240 while 43,280 used cars were imported, in 2006-07 the number of locally produced cars was 175,213 and 26,967 units were imported, in 2007-08, the number of locally produced cars was 164,870 and 16,121 were imported, 84,814 such cars were produced in 2008-09 while 5,556 units were imported, in 2009-10 the manufacturers produced 121,790 cars and 6,582 were imported, in 2010-11, the number was 133,972 and 10,761 and in 2011-12 around 154,255 were produced locally and 56,973 used cars were imported.

The present annual demand of cars in the country is approximately 200,000 units which is being met through local manufacturing and imports.
