"Peace in Karachi is a must not only for the innocent citizens but also for the economy of the country," he said while talking to newsmen after chairing a meeting on law and order at the National Crisis Management Cell (NCMC) here on Wednesday.

He said action will focussed on those involved in targeted killings and terrorists and that this fight will continue till normalcy restores in the mega city.

The Minister disclosed that during the night between Tuesday and Wednesday, the operation in particularly disturbed areas resulted in recovery of sophisticated weapons and several dozen arrests were made.

To a question, Rehman Malik said he agrees with the reservations expressed by MQM Chief Altaf Hussain and that was the reason that action was being taken against the outlaws and terrorists in Karachi.

Earlier, he held a detailed meeting and reviewed the progress on law and order situation in the city.

The meeting was also attended by Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Waseem Ahmed, DG Rangers Sindh Brig Zafar Ahmad, DG FIA, Tehseen Shah, PTA Chairman, Dr. Mohamamd Yasin, IG Sindh Wajid Durrani, Additional IG Karachi Saud Mirza, Additional IG Special Branch, Rasool Bux Sandh, Director FIA, Moazzam Jah Ansari, Additional Director FIA, Azad Khan, DO FC Iqbal Dara and others.
