FAISALABAD: The Pakistan Yarn Merchants Association (PYMA) Punjab-PK Pakhtoon Khwa has expressed resentment over 5-day gas closure for Punjab province and termed it harmful for the industry and textile sector.

The Chairman of PYMA Syed Faheem Mehmood Shah, while talking to media persons here on Sunday said that the load shedding of electricity coupled with unprecedented closure of gas have spelled a devastating effect on the over-all industrial growth of the province.

He claimed that with the closure of over 650 Industrial Units in this region have rendered millions of workers jobless.

He said this unwise decision would also affect over all national economy of the country.

He said this issue was repeatedly taken up with the concerned authority  by the stakeholders and it had repeatedly been assured that only 2 days gas outage would be allowed but despite this assurance, the SNGPL has been suspending gas supply for 84 hours per week and now the gas outage has been increased up to 5 days a week.

He said that with 5 day holidays, no industry could survive.      He also claimed that there was not shortage of gas in the country as the weather has altogether been changed. It is only an issue of mismanagement at highest level.

He demanded of the government to accelerate the Pak-Iran Gas Supply Project to ensure uninterrupted and round-the-year gas supply to the industrial sector.

He also demanded of the government to take immediate steps for uninterrupted gas supply to safe the Industrial sector in the country.
