KARACHI: Sindh government has set a target of 1.3 million metric tons for the procurement of wheat for the crop of 2012 in the province and fixed the support price at Rs1050 per 40 kg.
This decision was taken at a high level meeting of Sindh Food Department presided by Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah at Chief Minister House here Tuesday. The meeting was attended among others by Sindh Food Minister Mir Nadir Ali Magsi, Sindh Finance Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and senior officials.
The meeting decided that the process of procurement of wheat will be started immediately for which 388 wheat procurement centres are being established throughout the Sindh province. Besides, rangers will be deployed during procurement and borders with Balochistan province will be sealed particularly the Karachi-Hub and Jacobabad borders.
It was further decided that Section 144 Cr. P.C will be imposed for procurement centres and borders. The Minister Food and Secretary Food Department informed that 5,000 metric ton of wheat will be procured from Hyderabad (Hyderabad, Matiari, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan), 190,000 tonnes from Dadu district, 5,000 tonnes from Thatta district, 10,000 tonnes from Badin district, 80,000 tonnes from Mirpurkhas district, 140,000 tonnes from Sanghar districts, 75,000 tonnes from Larkana, 20,000 tonnes from Shikarpur, 75,000 tonnes from Jacobabad, 130,000 tonnes from Shaheed Benazirabad, 120,000 tonnes from Nausheroferoz, 160,000 tonnes from Khairpur, 170,000 tonnes from Ghotki while 70,000 tonnes will be procured from Sukkur district. It was further informed that the support price for subsequent three years each was Rs950 per 40 Kgs, and the Government of Sindh has this year (2012) approved support price of Rs1050 per 40 Kg.
Regarding wheat stock position, the meeting was informed that the wheat stock on July 1, 2011 was 15,38,219 M.Tonnes, out of which 12,01,019 M. Tonnes wheat was released upto March 11, 2012 and at present there is balance of 2,75,845 M.Tonnes of wheat with provincial food department.
Regarding position of Bardana (bags), it was informed that there is requirement of 13,000,000 (bags) of Bardana, out of which 28,00,000 was available of last year while 10,200,000 new Bardana will be purchased. The other related issues were also discussed at the meeting.
