LONDON: Heurelho Gomes' superb performances which earned him Watford's player of the season award gained due reward on Tuesday with a new improved two year contract.
The 35-year-old former Brazilian international goalkeeper -- who first caught the eye in Europe with Dutch side PSV Eindhoven -- has been outstanding for 'The Hornets' since signing from Spurs in May 2014.
"Goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes has agreed terms on an improved contract offer from the Hornets," read a statement on the club's website.
"The Brazilian, whose deal runs until 2018, has been rewarded for his fine performances in the Watford goal over the past two years."
Gomes' new deal adds to the sense of stability at the club, who defied the pundits and retained their Premier League status last term finishing 13th whilst also reaching the FA Cup semi-finals, despite the departure of Spanish manager Quique Sanchez Flores.
Star striker Troy Deeney -- who scored 13 goals in the Premier League last season -- gave the club a huge boost by signing a five year contract despite intense interest from champions Leicester City.
Flores' successor, the experienced Italian Walter Mazzarri, has also brought in fresh young faces in the shape of 20-year-old Belgian defender Christian Kabasele, Jerome Sinclair, 19, from Liverpool and highly-regarded young Nigerian forward Isaac Success, also 20.
