imageLAHORE: Chairman, National cricket committee, Inzamam ul Haq said on Wednesday that the players of Pakistan senior team skill camp and Pakistan A team were selected purely on merit.

"The players named for both (skill camp and Pakistan A team) are the unanimous choice of the selectors and performance was the only criteria to consider them and selectors did a job done on justice",

he told media at a news conference here on Wednesday at Gadaffi stadium. He said the selectors did a lot of hard work to finalise players for the skill camp and it was quite unfortunate that that they could not come across a talented all rounder who could impress them with his skills and technique.

"Besides, there was not a suitable off spinner who could have been selected and our leg spinner Yasir Shah is facing fitness problems and he is likely to be fit in ten days time", he asserted.

The former Pakistan captain said batsman Muhammad Hafeez name has been included in the camp and the final decision regarding his selection will be taken after going through his fitness reports. Regarding overlooking batsmen Ahmad Shahzad and Umar Akmal from the skill camp, the chief selector was of the view that both the batsmen need to bring improvement in their play, performance and attitude .

"We are observing them (Ahmad and Umar) very closely and certainly they can make a come back in the team provided they show visible improvement in their performance and attitude and they are capable of doing so",he added.

"We have some other rising players in our mind who will be given chance in coming team selections for other assignments and most importantly we have also consider the recommendations of the team captain and coach while selecting players for respective sides",he asserted.

"Certainly we will be giving a chance to the most outstanding players of the Pak A team to become a part of national senior team during the tour of England",he maintained.

Inzamam said the fitness camp which is in progress at Abbottabad under the watchful eyes of Pak army's physical training instructors will help in improving the overall fitness standards of the players.

He expressed his gratitude to all the instructors who are working on the players.

The chief selector termed the Pak senior teams tour to England 'tough' and a test of skills and technique of the players - who will be under pressure to perform to a high level. "I think this tour will help the young player to learn more and to add to their experience".

Inzamam said in his personal opinion education has no significant link with the cricket and other sports as there are number of players who were less educated but they excelled in cricket and their respective sports and brought laurels for the country.

To a question, he said Pak A team has the representation of Under 19 player who impressed with their extra ordinary performance and similarly Asif Zakir and Akbar ur Reman are the two new faces included in Pakistan senior team for the tour of England.

"After arrival of Pakistan team south African coach Miceky Arthur in Pakistan we will consult him before naming the Pakistan test team for the tour of England",he told a questioner.
