imageISLAMABAD: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is considering to award shield to modern batting great Younis Khan in the upcoming home series against England in UAE in recognition of his outstanding performance with the bat.

Having a Test average of over 50, Younis who will turn 38 in November this year needs just 19 runs to beat legendary Javed Miandad?s record.

"Younis Khan is all set to break legendary Miandad's Test record of scoring most runs for the country. The board is contemplating to award him a shield besides giving him prize for breaking Miandad's record," a source in PCB told APP on Thursday.

Miandad considered as the greatest batsman Pakistan has ever produced, had scored 8832 runs in 124 Tests with an average of 52.57, while Younis Khan has so far made 8814 runs with an average of 54.07 in his 101 Test outings.

Younis already holds the record of highest number of centuries by any Pakistani with 30 centuries. Inzamam scored 25 centuries, while Miandad hit 23.

Younis Khan scored a ton on his Test debut against Sri Lanka at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in 2000, becoming the seventh Pakistan batsman to achieve this feat. His 313 against Sri Lanka at the National Stadium, Karachi in 2009, is the third highest scored by a Pakistan batsman in Test cricket and the twentieth highest overall.

He has also scored Test centuries at 17 cricket grounds, including 20 at venues outside Pakistan. In January 2014, he hammered centuries in both innings of a Test match against Australia, becoming seventh Pakistani to achieve the feat.

In Test cricket, he is the first Pakistani batsman to score centuries against all the Test cricket playing nations. He has remained most successful against Sri Lanka, scoring seven Test hundreds against them. He has made a double century on five occasions in Tests.

As of 2015, he is tenth overall among all-time Test century-makers, and top of the equivalent list for Pakistan.
