imageISLAMABAD: Pakistan female's team captain Sana Mir feels women cricket should be televised saying currently there are six of our players in the Top 20 ICC rankings but they are not well recognized.

Sana Mir said the thing that bothers her is since having not any television coverage, female players are not well-known to the general public or to potential sponsors. "Most of the people know me because after the wins or loses, I am the one doing the interviews on television. However, we have six people in the top 20 ICC rankings in our team so I would expect the sponsors to come forward and support the players without whom, the team wouldn't be where it is today," she told Pakpassion.net.

Sana said she has been offered some good sponsorship deals and she is doing okay with the sponsors. "But the rest of the team, especially the top 6 in the rankings need to be recognized now," she said.

While praising the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Sana said PCB has played a tremendous role in the evolution and development of women's cricket in the country. "PCB continues to provide us with facilities and support that we need. We have a number of women's tournaments being organized for the last 3-4 years now and the standard of these competitions is improving every year. Some of the competitions such as the T20 tournament is always televised and even the under 19 finals are televised," she said.

Sana said I would still emphasize that the profile of all players in the team needs to be raised. "We need players who the general public can look upto and recognize. We have won the Asian Gold Medal for Pakistan not once but twice and we need to recognize and project these players so the world can see a softer image of Pakistan," she said.

Speaking about the future of women cricket, Sana said it is really bright. "We have youngsters coming in, like a fast bowler Maham Tariq from Karachi, Sidra Nawaz, a wicketkeeper. The young talent is coming through and we have very bright prospects," she said adding as far as her future is concerned, she never plan more than 5-6 months ahead.
