imageISLAMABAD: The prices of poultry products have increased in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad and the price of live chicken in the retail market has reached Rs 150 per kg and that of eggs reached Rs 115 per dozen.

Talking to APP, Chairman of Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA), Dr Hassan Sarosh said that the recent hike in poultry products prices was temporary and it would come down as soon as the weather gets warm and demand and supply situation becomes alanced.

He said the poultry industry suffered a lot during last one

and half year due to over-production and the farmers were facing a loss of Rs 20 to Rs 30 per kg as the cost of production was Rs 120 and the retail price of the chicken was about Rs 90 to Rs 95 per kg.

"Due to this reason, most of the farmers closed down their poultry farms resulting in shortage of the product", he said adding that due to less supply and more demand the prices went up.

But now, he said as the farmers are again coming back to the industry, the production would increase and problem of demand and supply would be resolved so the prices would again come to the normal range.

Commenting on the eggs prices, Dr Hassan said that the winter season has prolonged due to recent rains, which resulted in high demand of the eggs.
