pir-mazhar-ul-haqHYDERABAD: Senior Sindh Minister for Education Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq has said that the previous rulers had damaged the education system of the province, but the PPP government has initiated measures to ensure quality education with the appointment of 19,000 teachers on merit.

 

In the past, the teachers were appointed under the pressure of influential persons, however, the present government is appointing the teachers purely on merit with declaring two years PTC and CT Courses essential for the candidates, he said.

 

Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq said this while talking to media persons during his visit to Hiranand Government High School Society Hyderabad here on Saturday afternoon.

 

The minister informed the previous rulers appointed 500 lecturers on ad-hoc basis and a group of them has been associated with print and electronic media.

 

Responding to a question about the notice taken by Sindh Chief Minister regarding fake appointments of 4000 teachers in Jacobabad and Shikarpur districts, the minister said that he has still not received any official intimation in this respect. However, the minister said that after receiving directives, action will be taken into the matter.

 

The minister informed that when he assumed the office of the education ministry, he made efforts of reopening of 1400 school among 7700 closed schools and identified 1100 ghost schools. Further appointment of teachers is essential for opening of more schools in the province, the minister said and informed that the department has planned to appoint 19000 more qualified teachers purely on merit.

 

At initial stage, he informed that Women Teachers Training College Hyderabad and Hussainabad have been affiliated with University of Sindh and Karachi Training College has been affiliated with Karachi University for grant of degrees of PCT and CT Courses.

 

The minister underlined the need of activation of vocational and technical training schools at the grassroots level with objective to provide job oriented education to the future generation. In this respect a UK based organization is ready to extend cooperation, he informed.

 

During the visit, the minister announced the grant of Rs 0.1 million for purchase of new machinery for technical institute of Noval Roy Academy Hiranand School Society Hyderabad.
