  • NAB arrested him on Wednesday in assets beyond known source of income case.
  • NAB sources reveal Shah operates as many as 105 bank accounts in his and other family members’ names.
  • Bilawal says arrest was an attempt to divert people’s attention from Kashmir issue by government.

An accountability court granted on Thursday the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) a two-day transit remand of Pakistan People Party (PPP) senior leader Khursheed Shah in the assets beyond known source of income case.

A NAB team presented the PPP leader before accountability court Judge Mohammad Bashir and requested for a seven-day transit remand, local media reported.

On Wednesday, the accountability watchdog arrested the former leader of the opposition in the National Assembly in the assets beyond means case. NAB Rawalpindi and Sukkur teams arrested Shah from his residence in Bani Gala. Later, his medical examination was conducted at Polyclinic Hospital, Islamabad.

Investigations against the PPP leader were started on August 7. The investigations revealed that Shah allegedly constructed bungalows, petrol pumps and hotels in the name of other people. According to NAB sources, Shah operates as many as 105 bank accounts in his and other family members’ names in Karachi, Sukkur and other cities.

PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto termed the arrest of the senior leader as government's attempt to divert people’s attention from the Kashmir issue. Addressing Prime Minister Imran Khan, the PPP chairperson asked how can the PM raise his voice for political prisoners in Kashmir when he is arresting politicians in his own country.

Currently, Asif Ali Zardari and Faryal Talpur are already in NAB's custody while Murad Ali Shah is also facing investigations.
