ATC indicts PPP leader Faisal Raza Abidi in contempt of court case

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) indicted on Monday Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) former senator Faisal Raza Abidi for his anti-judiciary remarks.

The PPP leader was arrested on October 10 outside Supreme Court premises and taken to the Secretariat police station. A case was filed against Abidi for his statements which he made during an interview. He had used defamatory language against the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar and also insulted the judiciary.

During the hearing today, Abidi appeared before ATC judge Shahrukh Arjumand who was hearing the case. Abidi's lawyer informed the court that his client's health had deteriorated, to which the court ordered his medical checkup.

The ATC indicted Abidi for insulting and using inappropriate language against the CJP. The former PPP senator denied the charges after which the ATC bench summoned witnesses in the next hearing.
