imageISLAMABAD: Senate Standing Committee on States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) was informed on Tuesday that Rs 2389.367 millions out of the total budget of FATA has been utilized till Nov, 2015.

The senate body met here under the chairmanship of Senator Hilal ur Rehman.

The officials of Ministry of SAFRON apprised the body that the total budget of current year of 2015-16 for the FATA was Rs 19,700 million.

They said Rs 7450 millions have been released till December last year and out of this Rs 2398 millions have been spent on development schemes.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the briefing, the committee asked the ministry to submit the complete details of budget expenditures till to date in next meeting.

The officials of FATA Secretariat said several corruption cases in development schems have been identified and inquiries are being conducted against involved officials.

They said 114 schools have been upgraded Bajaur Agency in accordance of a special upgradation policy.

The officials said the process of recruitment of 157 levies has been completed.

The committee recommended to send the corruption cases to the accountability departments for recovery of funds.

The committee also discussed the matter of 15 percent commission on approval of tenders by the C&W department.

The senate body noted that the schools having strength of 900 students in Bajaur Agency were not upgraded while the schools having only a strength of 175 students have been up graded.

The committee also recommended to send the matter to ECC meeting to issue SRO to exempt FATA from GST in electricity bills.
