imageAkshay Kumar’s ‘Rustom’ clashed with Hrithik Roshan's ‘Mohenjo Daro’ at the box office this Friday and it is safe to assume who has emerged as the winner on day one of box office. While ‘Rustom’ seems to have had a better start already, ‘Mohenjo Daro’ is trying hard to catch up.

According to Indian media reports, “Rustom is leading... It is performing better than Mohenjo Daro. It got decent reviews and people are liking this film more. Mohenjo Daro did not seem to be appealing to the audience, while there was curiosity and hype around Rustom,” film distributor Rajesh Thadani said.

While Rustom has been made at a cost of Rs 50 crore, Mohenjo Daro's budget is Rs 100 crore, Akshay Kumar’s ‘Rustom’ is likely to make more profits than Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Mohenjo Daro’. Though, it’s a close call but with its initial reviews ‘Rustom’ seems to have slight edge over the historic-drama.

The execution of Tinu Suresh Desai’s ‘Rustom’ is inexplicable. The director has a talented primary cast in place, the costume, make-up, hair and production design departments appear to have worked hard, and it is loosely based on a real-life drama that is truly fascinating. Yet Desai fritters away all these advantages. His weak direction coupled with a screenplay that urgently required more thought, results in a silly, tacky, confusing film.

On the other hand, It turns out the movie which stars Hrithik Roshan and Pooja Hegde is no better. The film that narrates the story of the Indus Valley civilization appears to be a mish-mash of director Ashutosh Gowarikar’s previous movies. It has the grandeur of his 2008 epic ‘Jodhaa Akbar’, the sincerity from his Oscar-nominated 2001 movie ‘Lagaan’ and the lack of any substance from his forgettable 2010 flick ‘Khelein Hum Jeee Jaan Sey’.
