American film actress Salma Hayek wants Arab women to work in Hollywood movies as they aren’t getting enough representations in foreign films.
Talking to Egyptian daily newspaper Hayek said that the Arab woman is absent in foreign movies because filmmakers do not approach her in fear of causing her problems or causing unintended humiliation. Filmmakers prefer to produce a film in which an Arab actor plays the villain rather than producing something with an Arab heroine.
As a Mexican origin actress Hayek has faced many tribulations in her film career. She has recently produced a film adaption of the Khalil Gibran’s fiction book ‘The Prophet’ and screened it in the Doha-based ‘Ajyal Youth Film Festival’ earlier this month.
She explained why she wanted people from the Middle-Eastern region to be involved with the project stating, “For us, it was very important to have in the project someone who was also from the region. As international as this film is, it does have the Middle East at its core, and this was and is important for us,” local media reported.
Hayek has worked in many notable movies including ‘Grown Ups’, ‘Grown Ups 2’, ‘Puss in Boot’ and ‘Wild Wild West’.
