The new shooting game ‘Destiny’ just hit a new sales record of $500 million; ‘Destiny’ earned the most of any new video game franchise on its first day.
Activision Blizzard released its highly anticipated game ‘Destiny’ which raked up $500 million on its opening day. Among the famous U.S games developers, Activision has launched one of the best games of all time.
The company is set to launch another ‘World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor’, the newest expansion in the epic franchise which has already been pre-purchased by over 1.5 million subscribers, media reported.
As the new game was hyped before its launch, the makers were expecting it to do well. They expected it to sell about 10 million units over the course of the year. However, sales in the first twenty-four hours after release hit that mark quite easily. They have now revised their sales forecast to 18 million units over the next year.
According to foreign media reports, though ‘Destiny’ performed in its first twenty-four hours, it is still not the highest grossing game on launch. Rockstar’s ‘Grand Theft Auto V’, part of the hugely popular Grand Theft Auto franchise, became the fastest video game to gross $1 billion. After hitting $800 million when it first launched, GTA V hit the billion dollar mark after just three days.
