Australia is bringing in three new faces in the One Day International (ODIs) squad, against Pakistan. The hosts have dropped veterans Aaron Finch and George Bailey with uncapped Chris Lynn and Billy Stanlake, for the upcoming limited over contest.
Whereas, Usman Khawaja has been recalled back to the ODIs after an impressive batting display in the Test series.
This is an extremely important series for us as, following it in a ODI context, we have the Chappell-Hadlee Series in New Zealand and then, in mid-year, the ICC Champions Trophy, a tournament which we won in 2006 and 2009," said Interim National Selector Trevor Hohns, reported cricket.com.au.
We believe this squad is an exciting combination that covers all bases for us over the course of the five matches against Pakistan, Hohns added.
Usman Khawaja has been in excellent touch throughout this Test summer, is able to bat anywhere in the top order and deserves another chance to demonstrate his ODI credentials.
Batsman Chris Lynn has been a top performer for the Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League (BBL), while Billy Stanlake is an exciting prospect who bowls with genuine pace and is a player who has made a terrific return to action for the Adelaide Strikers in BBL, informed Hohns.
Australia ODI squad: Steve Smith (c), David Warner (vc), James Faulkner, Pat Cummins, Travis Head, Josh Hazlewood, Usman Khawaja, Mitchell Marsh, Chris Lynn, Glenn Maxwell, Billy Stanlake, Mitchell Starc, Matthew Wade, Adam Zampa
