imageISLAMABAD: Leader of the opposition Syed Khurshid Shah opened debate on the federal budget 2014-15 in the National Assembly on Friday. Khurshid Shah said the budget should reflect aspirations of the people.

He emphasised the need for consulting the opposition in budget preparation.

He said the government had fixed 2475 billion rupees as revenue collection target in the outgoing fiscal year but reduced it twice to 2275 billion rupees on the insistence of the IMF.

He said the government had collected 1,950 billion rupees till 30th May, 2014, and still needed 325 billion rupees to achieve the target. Khurshid Shah also underlined the need to improve the financial position of the provinces to meet their requirement after the 18th amendment.Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was also present in the House on Friday.

Meanwhile,the House Business Advisory Committee of the National Assembly has decided that debate on the new federal budget will be completed on 17th of this month and thereafter the process of passage of budget will be initiated. The committee held a meeting in the Parliament House with Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in the chair.

The Committee also decided that the Budget Session will continue till 21st of this month.

The Committee also approved the tentative schedule of sessions of the National Assembly during its 2nd Parliamentary year.

At the start of the proceedings, the House offered fateha for the departed soul of ex-MNA Mian Mohsin Qureshi.

Earlier, the House also passed three bills , including The Anti-terrorism (Amendment) Bill, 2014, Legal Practitioners and Bar Councils (Amendment) Bill, 2014 and The Service Tribunal (Amendment) Bill, 2014.

The Senate has already passed these bills.Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan, Chaudhary Birjees Tahir moved the Bills.
