fiat2MILAN: Shares in Italy's Fiat were suspended from trading for excessive losses on Friday morning after a report said the carmaker was sounding out banks about a possible capital hike of up to 2 billion euros to buy out Chrysler.

The shares last traded at 0811 GMT when they were down 5.1 percent at 3.51 euros.

Italian newspaper Il Messaggero reported that Fiat had launched talks with banks to buy the 41.5 percent of the US carmaker it does not already own.

Fiat declined to comment on the report.
