MADRID: Spain's jobless rate rose by 0.18 percent in August from a month earlier, or by 8,070 people, leaving 4.43 million people out of work, data from the Labour Ministry showed on Tuesday.
Joblessness is Spain's main economic bugbear although the economy exited recession in the second half of last year.
The quarterly unemployment rate, at 24.5 percent in the second quarter, is calculated on the basis of a survey by the statistics institute as many of the jobless are not eligible for benefits and therefore do not register.
