ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Rehman Malik on Friday welcomed MQM's support for Raja Pervez Ashraf as a candidate for Prime Minister.
He was talking to Farooq Sattar and Babar Ghauri, leaders of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), who met him here to discuss the current political situation in the country.
Rehman Malik lauded MQM chief Altaf Hussain for his efforts for the promotion of democracy and democratic institutions in the country and said his friendship with President Asif Ali Zardari would continue in all difficult times.
The former Interior Minister said that the PPP and the MQM would jointly contest the next elections.
Farooq Sattar said that the MQM had always given priority to the stability of the country. Since their leader Altaf Hussain had always taken positive steps for democracy, therefore, the MQM decided to support PPP's candidate, Raja Pervez Ashraf for premiership.
He said for the supremacy of parliament, the MQM would continue supporting PPP.
