imageLOS ANGELES: Oklahoma State University basketball player Tyrek Coger, who collapsed and died after a training session on Thursday, had an enlarged heart and died of natural causes, officials said Friday.

The Oklahoma State Medical Examiner's Office announced its findings a day after the 21-year-old player collapsed following a 40-minute conditioning workout.

He was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Oklahoma State coach Brad Underwood broke down at a news conference on Friday talking about his recent recruit.

"This is the hardest couple of days I've ever experienced in my coaching life," he said. "You say goodbye to players when they graduate and that's one thing. Making that phone call to a mother is -- there's no words."

Coger didn't appear to be having any trouble during his outdoor workout on the football stadium stairs, University officials said Friday.

But he was in distress and paramedics were called soon after.

The temperature was 99 degrees Fahrenheit (37 degrees Celsius) at the time of the workout, according to the Stillwater News Press.

Oklahoma State will examine its summer practice procedures in the wake of Coger's death, the school's athletic director Mike Holder said.
