imageIgnoring India's run machine Virat Kohli and South African AB de Villiers, Former Pakistani Captain Mohammad Yousuf said that after the massive double century against Pakistan in the second Test at Manchester, he believed that Joe Root is the best batsmen in the world at the moment.

"He is the best batsman in all three formats of the game. His balance, his shot selection and his timing all work well together and his double hundred against Pakistan at Old Trafford was a precious stone of an innings," Yousuf told a local media.

"Root has been around for just a few years but already his batting averages in all three formats speak for his class". However, Yousuf said there is as well no doubt about the class of Kohli or de Villiers but in his personal opinion Root is number one at the moment.

Yousuf, himself a top batsman who appeared in 90 Tests and 288 one-day internationals, said that the common factor between Root, Kohli and de Villiers were that they were all equally comfortable playing in any format of the game.

Relatively, Yousuf had earlier speaking to an Indian media said, “People compare Kohli with Sachin but, according to me, Sachin played better bowlers, which I think Kohli hasn’t yet. As you saw, Kohli faced a few problems facing the England bowlers. He looks a little weak in the channel outside off stump. But, overall, without a doubt he is one of the best, but to compare Sachin, it will still take a while longer.”
