imageKARACHI: Pakistan firebrand young guns with support and guidance from seniors got the potential and firepower to topple India in the showpiece Cricket World Cup opener at Adelaide, former opener and Ex-chief coach Mohsin Khan said on Wednesday.

Despite various difficulties, injury problems, Pakistan team got the capacity and potential to break the defeat jinx, he told APP in an exclusive interview here.

He said young players like Ahmed Shahzad, Sohaib Maqsood, Umar Akmal, Haris Sohail, Sarfraz Ahmed, Yasir Shah, and Muhammad Irfan all are capable of doing amazing feats if they handled the pressure in the big-game between two arch-rivals.

However for bringing best of these talented cricketers, he said, these players needed support of seniors like captain Misbah-ul-Haq, Younis Khan and Shahid Afridi because they got a huge international experience behind them.

He expressed the hope if youngsters played natural and fearlessly and without victory and defeat in their mind they would change history.

Mohsin Khan said on the field guidance by the trio of Misbah, Younis and Afridi in difficult times and pressure times will be great help.

He said in batting Ahmed Shahzad, Sohaib, Umar Akmal, Sarfraz, Haris can play the role of match changers while paceman Muhammad Irfan and Yasir Shah’s wicket-taking ability will be great significance.

He said Sarfraz form is bit worry but he was capable of fighting back.

He said Irfan and Yasir bowled very well which was encouraging after paceman Junaid Khan and all-rounder Muhammad Hafeez went out of the event due to injuries.

"These were big blows but team must forget them and looking for the big mission ahead," he said. I don’t see any for Pakistan in making last eight grade and beyond if they maintained their rhythm. "Pakistan would be looking for wicket-taking balls from Irfan against strong Indian batting line which can put them under pressure" he remarked.

"Good game plan, tactical play and strategy will be vital in the outcome of the match, stylish opener," he commented.

Mohsin Khan, who had the honor of scoring the double century at the Lords, said Pakistan can end the drought by beating India for the first time since 1992 after five straight defeats in the World Cup.

He said he was aware that Pakistan team always put an extra effort against India.

They are looking forward to change history to give the great news and lift the own morale and of the nation.

Though Indian got strong batting and better acclimatizing of playing in Australia and at Adelaide and that may give some edge, he maintained. He predicted that pitch at the Adelaide Oval would be more suited for batting. But bowlers bowling in the right areas with variations can be threatening.
