ISLAMABAD: National Assembly on Wednesday passed National Accreditation Council Bill 2016 unanimously after couple of amendments proposed by the opposition parties.
The bill was moved to the House by Federal Minister for Law and Justice Zahid Hamid.
Ministry of Science and Technology had established National Accreditation Council through a notification with an aim to establish an international recognized accreditation system to accredit conformity assessment bodies including laboratories and inspection agencies.
The bill passed by the House will ensure proper functioning of conformity assessment bodies to assure the quality of products, services and management system in accordance with international and national standards for sustainable socio-economic development.
The functions of proposed body under this law include public service activities as it had required a statutory cover for fulfillment of international and national obligations.
