imageISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday adjourned hearing of the case regarding construction of Dasu Dam till Thursday. The three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, comprising Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Qazi Faez Isa heard the case filed by China Power Construction Company.

During the course of proceedings, Advocate Salman Aslam Butt counsel for the China Power Construction Company said his client company was an international reputed company and it had constructed three gorges dam and other hydro power projects.

He said that his client company and two other companies pre-qualified for construction of Dasu Dam. After pre-qualification the project was referred to the World Bank for approval, he added.

He said that the World Bank dropped his client's company from participating in the tender process which was totally illegal and unconstitutional.

He said that the World Bank was working in Pakistan and it should follow laws of the land and that it had no authority to stop any company to participate in the tender.

He said that total estimated cost of Dasu Dam was $37.8 million and the World Bank will finance 10 per cent for construction of Dasu Dam. On which the chief justice remarked that whether the World Bank got veto power after financing 10 per cent share for construction of dam.

Advocate Shahzada Mazhar counsel for WAPDA told the court that China Power Construction Company was asked to submit reply over objections in four weeks, but it filed civil appeal in Lahore High Court which was dismissed.

Later, hearing of the case was adjourned.
