LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday presided over a high level meeting, which reviewed different proposals regarding installation of solar tube-wells, converting schools on solar energy and running of water filtration plants for Saaf Pani Project through solar energy.
German Consultant Dr. Dreesmann gave a briefing regarding use of solar energy.
Addressing the meeting, Shehbaz Sharif said the government is implementing a comprehensive program of use of solar energy and has evolved a program of converting 5,000 schools of the province on solar energy.
He directed that a comprehensive plan be evolved regarding installation of solar tube-wells in Punjab and promotion of use of solar energy in view of energy crisis faced by the country is need of the hour.
He said that provision of solar tube-wells to small cultivators could leave a positive impact on agriculture. He said decisions should be taken in consultation with solar energy experts and practical steps should be taken speedily.
Provincial Minister for Housing Tanvir Aslam Malik, Chairman Saaf Pani Company MPA Muhammad Kashif Padhiyar, Chairman Planning & Development, Secretary Finance, Energy, Housing, Health and concerned officials attended the meeting.
