KARACHI: Chairman, Parliamentary Committee on China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed on Thursday said that CPEC is a national project and it will be beneficial for all the provinces including Gilgit-Baltistan.
Mushahid Hussain Syed, who is also Secretary General of Pakistan Muslim League-Q, said Sindh has a very important position in CPEC.
He was speaking to media here at the residence PML-Q leader Tariq Hassan. Tariq Hassain, the former deputy mayor of Karachi and Bostan Ali Hoti were also present.
Mushahid Hussain Syed said that he along with other members of the Parliamentary Committee on CPEC was on visit to Sindh to see the progress of the energy and other projects which are the part of CPEC.
" Today (Thursday), we visited two coal-fired power plants at Port Qasim and on Friday we would visit Tharparkar to see coal-based power plants being set up there," he said.
He had met Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah who was convinced about the benefits of CPEC for Sindh province and the country. Later in the evening, he added, he would call on Sindh Governor Dr. Ishrat ul Ebad Khan for the same purpose. Sindh has major share in the energy projects under CPEC. Dollars 11.5 billion were allocated for these projects, he explained. He said the Parliamentary Committee had also visited the Western route of CPEC in Balochistan, which was being constructed on fast track.
He said a special economic zone of CPEC was being constructed on 2200 acres land near Gwadar Port.
Mushahid Hussain Syed said that he had proposed constitution of high-powered eleven-member committee headed the Prime Minister. All the Chief Ministers including that of Gilgit-Baltistan and four federal ministers would also its members. He said that he had planned to form CPEC media forum with representatives from all the Press Clubs of the country.
