PESHAWAR: Central leader of ANP Afrasaib Khattak has said that his party would continue to support democratic and constitutional system in the country, saying it believed that the government would settle the present unrest with the opponents through peaceful talks.
ANP leader expressed these views after attending the high level National Security Conference meeting called by Prime Minister at Islamabad on Saturday which was attended by heads of all the political parties including Army Chief, DG ISI and DGMO. Haji Ghulam Ahmed Bilour also attended the NSC meeting as ANP rep.
Khattak said that he told the NSC meeting that the government should settle the problems with the opponents in an amicable fashion and avoid pursuing confrontational path.
Presenting the point of view of his party in the NSC he said, the ANP had offered sacrifices of hundreds of its workers in order to establish peace and harmony in Fata and KPK. The tribal regions of the country remained under the grip of bloodshed at the hand of terrorists for long time, resultantly millions of Fata people became homeless and their properties and businesses destroyed, he added.
Now time has come that people of Fata should be given political rights and efforts should be made for their comprehensive rehabilitation, he said adding, the constitutional status of the tribal regions should also be determined. Moreover Fata should be given right of legislation and judicial system.
Afrasiab Khattak expressed displeasure over the lack of coordination between the central and provincial government of KPK about proper look after of the displaced people which he said added to their miseries.
The ANP representative also called for initiating dialogue between Pakistan and Afghanistan so that the unrest existing at both sides of the border could be removed and atmosphere of confidence was restored.
Terrorism in the region could not be controlled sans cooperation between the two brotherly neighbours, he said adding, and focus should be made on improving geo economic relations instead of geo-strategic with Afghanistan. Similarly cordial relations should be established with central Asian states.
ANP leader also drew attention of the NSC towards the changing scenario in the region and said that US forces are withdrawing from Afghanistan in 2014.
The China's concern about terrorism has increased as China has recently appointed its representative for Afghanistan as they have great interest in peaceful and stable Afghanistan. Iran, he said was trying to improve its relations with the West by ending its political isolation.
The new government in India would certainly improve its relations with West also, he said, adding Indian PM Narindra Modi was opening up all his avenues for Western capital and all these development would be its impact on the region therefore Pakistan would have to revisit its policies.
