LAHORE: A comprehensive energy roadmap has been chalked out to meet power needs for agriculture sector through solar energy and biomass and a hefty sum of Rs 10 billion has been set aside in the provincial budget 2012-13.
Agriculture Minister Punjab Ahmed Ali Aulakh said this while talking to APP in Punjab Assembly chamber on Friday.
The minister said that a plan was also being shaped out for promotion of biogas and substantial subsidy was being offered to farmers to help them meet the energy needs through biomass.
Solar energy will be harboured for World Bank funded drip and spinkle irrigation project,explained the minister.
He said the Punjab government has earmarked sufficient funds to set up power producing plants in the next fiscal year.
To a question,Ahmed Aulakh said Chief Minister Punjab has already asked private parties to establish their own power plants due to acute power shortage.
