imageKARACHI: The Sindh Education Department with the funding of World Bank has launched a Rs two billion project to provide missing facilities to 10,000 schools.

Presently, work on provision of missing facilities to 300 schools have been taken up, of them work on 1,600 schools would be completed by the end of June 2016.

This was informed in a meeting held under the chairmanship of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah regarding development schemes of Education Department here Wednesday.

Those who attended the meeting, include senior Minister for Education Nisar Khuhro, Principal Secretary Alamuddin Bullo, Secretary Education Fazal Pechuho, Additional Chief Secretary (Development) Mohammad Waseem, Secretary Finance Sohial Rajput and others.

Secretary Education Fazal Pechuho said that the Education Department has launched a project with the assistance of World Bank for Rs two billion.

He added that there were 10,000 schools which lack basic facilities such as washrooms, compound wall, drinking water and such others.

Minister Education Nisar Khuhro said that in the first phase, the Education Department has taken up 1,600 schools to provide them missing facilities of washrooms, compound walls, drinking water etc.

"We are going to provide facilities to 300 schools by the end of June 2016," he said.

The Chief Minister directed the Education Department to take necessary measure to provide missing facilities to schools, particularly washrooms and compound wall on war footings. "Under security plan of schools compound walls are most important," he said.

Secretary Education giving presentation to the Chief Minister said that his Department was working on Rs 10 billion development schemes of six different sub sectors.

They are elementary education which has 24 schemes of Rs 768.13 million; teachers education with seven schemes for Rs 152 million; Sindh Education Foundation- three schemes of Rs 512.5 million, Secondary Education has 66 schemes of Rs 4.6 billion, College education has 54 schemes for Rs 2,376.577 million and miscellaneous has 41 schemes of Rs 1.5 billion.

He said that Education Department would complete 16 schemes by the end of June 2016 which include establishment of Shaheed Mohterma Benazir Bhutto College of Education for Rs 178 million, construction of auditorium, compound wall, water supply scheme at Cadet College Petaro for Rs 163.4 million, reconstruction of Commerce and Arts Block in exiting degree college (Men) Nazimabad for Rs 74.5 million.

On the elementary education side, the schemes to be completed by the end of year 2015-16 are rehabilitation of existing schools damaged by heavy rains in district Larkana for Rs 56.13 million, construction of one additional class room in existing three primary schools of district Kashmore for Rs 8.5 million.

The schemes of secondary education side which would be completed by June include establishment of single section high school Khairpur for Rs 45.12 million; rehabilitation/addition of class rooms and gymnasium Hall at Marrie and girls school Safia Memorial Jamshed Town Karachi for Rs 84.91 million; repair of educational institutes of Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town, block- 6 girls school, Khatoon-e-Pakistan Karachi for Rs 58.86 million, establishment of single section high school at Khairpur for Rs 45.49 million, repair of girls primary school Khatoon e Pakistan school Sharafabad for Rs 95.8 million, upgradation of secondary schools in different districts for Rs 849.89 million, rehabilitation of boys schools in Sinjhoro, Sanghar district for Rs 14.19 million, covering drainage nala passing through Sindh govt schools at PAF Faisal Base, Karachi, for Rs 50 million and some others.

The Chief Minister directed the Education Minister to personally keep visiting development schemes of Education Department to ensure their quality and in time work.
