KARACHI: Governor Sindh Dr. Ishrat ul Ebad Khan has highlighted the significance of solid waste management project for the metropolis.
He was chairing a high-level meeting regarding solid waste management here at the Governor House on Saturday.
The Governor said that the project would contribute towards cleanliness in the city besides generating energy.
He also assured that participants of the meeting that the required legislation would also be undertaken.
Dr. Ishrat directed that a focal person be appointed to make the project more effective.
He said that all the stakeholders in the city should work in a concerted manner.
The Governor said that the medical waste should be collected from the hospitals and arrangements for the transport should also be made.
He directed that in collaboration with the local people, work on solid waste management be initiated promptly.
Dr. Ishrat called for devising a system besides the inclusion of the DMCs.
The Managing Director of the Solid Waste Management informed the meeting about details of the project. He said that the implementation would commence from January next year.
He was of the view that the work would be carried out on modern lines.
He was of the opinion that a large quantity of energy and gas can be generated from the waste in Karachi.
With the efforts of the Governor, recycling parks are being made on Northern Bypass, it was further stated.
